The race crew for Escape to Belle Isle has made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel the in-person race that was supposed to take place on July 18, 2020. To continue to support the House and engage with our favorite people (that's you!) we've made the race virtual with options to participate at $25 or for free.
We simply don’t know when a large event such as this awesome race will be safe for our families - and yours. Despite the impact this will have, we know the health and safety of our families is our mission, and we must honor it and honor their strength by supporting them in staying healthy.
And just like medical uncertainty can cause fear and financial strain for our families, it does so for us. Escape to Belle Isle is one of the largest fundraising events each year for Ronald McDonald House Charities Detroit.
Although we are unable to host an in-person race for 2020 Escape to Belle Isle due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can still help the House!
We will be hosting a social-media based race from Friday, July 10th through Sunday, July 19th. All you have to do is walk or run 2 miles, 5k, or 10k during those dates. There are a few ways you can participate:
-For $25, you can purchase a 2020 Special Edition Escape to Belle Isle T-Shirt! With our ever popular Lion logo (now with his own face mask!) to remember this unbelievable year. Tag us in your #EscapeSelfies!
-You can participate in our virtual event for free! Simply run or walk a 5k or 10k during this time and post a photo on social medial Make sure you tag us for a chance to be featured. Use our hashtag #SafeEscape2020.
-Whether you choose to buy a shirt or participate for free, you can sign up online and create fundraising teams. You'll get a personalized link to share to your own social pages and every dollar you raise will provide a home away from home for families while their child is hospitalized.
You can make a donation to RMHC Detroit! rmhc-detroit.org/donate.

These are difficult, uncertain times. But we are a grassroots race group that is strong, and we know our community is strong too. We don’t know what additional changes, adaptations and evolutions will happen in the coming days, weeks, and months. We stand ready and willing to do what it takes to continue to support families, to prioritize their health, and to keep the community around us healthy.
Thank you for continuing to support us, and standing strong beside us! We will be back stronger and better than ever next year!!
Stay well, and Cool Runnings,
Jenna, Race Director, and Crew
